چکیده

A controversy concerning the shielding of coherent synchrotron radiation has existed for many years. Estimates of the reduction of radiated power by nearby conducting surfaces in LHC di er by several orders of magnitude when one uses the expressions given in two of the major papers in the eld. A clari cation of this problem as well as the expected values for coherent synchrotron radiation in LEP and LHC are presented here.

A new measurement has been made of the rate of pair{production in a 3.2 mm thick tungsten crystal, exposed to photons with energies in the range 10 to 150 GeV, for angles of incidence up to 10 mrad from the crystal axis. A strong enhancement of the pair{production rate is observed when the beam is aligned along the <100> crystal axis, as compared to a random orientation. This e ect can be explo...

This paper discusses the potential radiation hazard caused by beam losses in one of the transfer lines (TT2) of the CERN Proton Synchrotron, close to the point where the beam is split and can be directed towards the Super Proton Synchrotron via the TT10 tunnel, sent to the n_TOF experiment installed in the extension of TT2 (TT2A tunnel), or stopped in a massive dump. The TT2 area is separated f...

EUROPEAN ORGANIZATION FOR NUCLEAR RESEARCH CERN-SL DIVISION CERN-SL-2000- 075 (AP) Transverse Mode Coupling Instabilities

Transverse Mode Coupling Instabilities (TMCI) emerged between 1974 and 1980 as the main limitation of dense bunches in electron synchrotrons and storage rings. A two-particle model allows one to calculate the Beam Break-Up (BBU) instability in linacs. Extending this to synchrotrons show that the BBU instability is suppressed below a threshold intensity by synchrotron oscillations. The classical...

AMonte Carlo program for the simulation of four-fermion nal states at LEP2 is presented. It contains the Feynman diagrams with two resonating W's and Z's and features, among other things, initial and nal state radiation, Coulomb singularity e ects and e ective couplings. It is interfaced to the JETSET package to handle gluon radiation, hadronisation and decays. Its usefulness for experimental s...

Computer simulations for the CERN muon storage ring confirm the absence of beam-induced multipacting. Thus electron-cloud build up along the bunch train is not expected to be a problem. Geneva, Switzerland December 18, 2000 We first describe a few basic considerations on electron-cloud build up, scaling from the LHC, and then report simulation results. Table 1 lists relevant parameters for the ...
